Screenings

Parallel to the exhibition "Windows" by artist Rosalind Nashashibi, ARCH and Melas Martinos are pleased to present two evenings of screenings of her films at ARCH:

Friday, October 3rd
8:00 pm

Rosalind Nashashibi presents two films shot in Palestinian neighbourhoods, Dahiet Al Bareed / District of the Post Office, 2002, 7min, a portrait of an neighborhood that was founded as a utopian community for Palestinian Post Office workers by Nashashibi’s grandfather in the 50’s, but by 2002 became neglected in the Israeli military controlled area between Jerusalem and the Occupied West Bank, and Hreash House, 2004, 20min, a portrait of an extended family living communally in Nazareth, a city inside Israel’s borders with a Palestinian population. Followed by Vivian’s Garden, 2017, 29min, a film portrait of the matriarchal compound in Panjachel, Guatemala that was built by artists Vivian Suter and her mother Elisabeth Wild.

Saturday, October 4th
8:00 pm

Denim Sky, 2022, 67min
is a feature film in three parts. Together the trilogy is a playful exploration of non-nuclear family and community structures, the theoretical effects of non-linear time travel on human relationships, and how this could aid or problematise communication. The narrative is based on a fiction about a spaceship crew brought together in order to develop a crew mentality, so that they can be used to test a new form of space travel that uses non-linear time. Throughout, the light humour and fraternal mood of the group are disrupted by unsettling and unexpected events.

*Admission is free on a first-come, first-served basis.

Rosalind Nashashibi is a painter and filmmaker based in London, from Palestinian and Northern Irish heritage. In both media she is preoccupied with looking, to the extent of passing over onto the side of the subject in a way that can be disconcerting and yet deeply empathetic. Her films are often non-linear, punctuated by manifestations of power dynamics and collective histories.
